| What is the difference between email and the Internet? | |
| Many
people get confused about the difference between the Internet and email.
The Internet is actually a set of computers that are connected together.
When your modem connects to the Internet, you are part of a gigantic network
of computers Email uses this network of computers to send information from one computer to another. To send or receive an email you need a program on your computer that can do this. Most computers will have a Microsoft program called Outlook Express. When you send an email you will need the address of the person you are sending it to. This could be joe@alignafrica.com for example. Although email is the most commonly used aspect of the Internet, the potential is so much greater: video conferencing, chatting, newsgroups and web page browsing are just some of the other uses. |
